Policy inconsistency characterizes the dream to increase VAT in the Mid year budget review – Prof John Gatsi
The idea of an increase in VAT demonstrates policy inconsistency and disregard for the hardship of citizens. It is also a clear feedback that the policy christened from taxation to production has failed. Government wanted the opportunity to engage Ghanaians in early 2017 to introduce a tax to finance the free SHS. The timing is inappropriate and will escalate the socioeconomic burden on people and difficulties of business. The government should be guided that the fiscal space is bedeviled with over earmarking of revenue and the trend should rather looked at.
